Is this session for you?

This session is for GUDTP students whose studentship started after October 2024 and have not yet made concrete steps towards arranging their placement. It will be particularly beneficial to those needing to make quick progress in their placement planning so those finishing their second year of doctoral studies should not miss it. All DTP2 students are welcome to join.

What to expect

This session will be equally useful to those interested in applying for an advertised placement and those aimng to arrange a bespoke placement.

We will

  • refresh your understanding of the GUDTP criteria, terms, and conditions for placement support
  • go through our application process, timeline, and documents
  • provide a  list of recently advertised opportunities that are still accepting applications, as well as popular placement schemes with regular recuitment cycles
  • discuss tips, common challenges, and opportunities identified by those who have already developed bespoke placements
  • address all questions and concerns based on past experience and the feedback of placement veterans and hosts.

What we expect from you

Students will be expected to discuss their placement planning progress to date and any obstacles they have faced in arranging their placements with candour and openess.

All participants should be in a quiet room and with their cameras on. It is important that those sharing their plans feel seen and heard by real people.

All participants should have read our placements guidance for students before the session.
