This shared pathway is an innovative collaboration bringing together Oxford’s world-leading education research across a range of fields with Brunel’s specialist expertise in inclusive education and social mobility.
Each Oxford research student is a member of at least one of the Department’s 12 research groups/centres, each offering a rich programme of seminars and supporting research specialisms in a wide range of areas including the economics of education; vocational education and training policy; Educational Assessment; Fostering and Education; and English as a Medium of Instruction; Families, Early Learning and Literacy; Fostering and Education; and teacher education (see the Department's website for a full list).
Research at Brunel focuses on social inclusion and widening participation in a range of areas, including SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability), STEM education, Primary Education, Professional Education, Teacher Education and Pedagogical Philosophy. UK studies on the development of potential in children affected by social deprivation are led by the internationally-recognised Brunel Able Children’s Education Centre.
